[Another one that needs some explanation.... Percy finds Taryon, a package tucked under his arm, just outside the keep one crisp December morning.]

Good morning. I've... got something for you.

[Hey it's a nice bottle of wine hanging out with a ribbon tied around it, waiting for Taryon on the doorstep to his room in the Keey, with a note attached that reads: 'For my fellow Wildemount denizen. Happy not-Winter's Crest. - Caleb']

[Sitting on a table in Tary's room whenever he returns to it during a day in mid-December is a weatherproof case. Inside is a spare journal, pens that, on closer inspection, each reflect a member of Vox Machina, including Tary himself and a folded letter.]

Tary,

I thought you could use a spare book. But not just that. I thought you could use a reminder you're one of us. No matter where you go and what you do, know you always have a home with us. I'm not saying go anywhere, just that you belong. I'm glad to call you a friend and ally.

And hope one day you do publish your works. I hope they touch others as you have touched us. Life is a little brighter with a friend like you around. - Vax

Ps: The case should be able to fit in Doty.

[When Tary opens his door, there is a pretty silver-wrapped package by it. There's a note on top with his name on it, in Vex's elegant handwriting.

After removing the paper and opening the box itself, he will find a hair care set in stamped silver: mirror, brush and comb. On the back of the mirror and brush are the Sun Tree of Whitestone, the Sun of Pelor with arrows under it, a bear a symbol of Sarenrae, a clenched fist, an elegant leaf, a raven, a lute, a robot, and a book and pen in a circle around the stylized VM of Vox Machina.]

I have learned a great deal about myself and hair care from you, Tary. You are as much a member of Vox Machina as anyone else. And if anyone tries to dispute that, let me know so that I can fill them with arrows.

Aside from Percy and Vax, you are the only other man I hold so dear. You are my best friend and have the greatest heart of anyone I have met in all our travels. Never lose that, but remember the lessons you learned while with Vox Machina. And ignore everything your father has ever said about your worth. He doesn't know a damn thing about true worth and will suffer all his days for it.

Inside is a really nicely crafted set of tinkering tools, along with a note, written in gnomish.

Tary, hopefully these tools will help once you get Doty back. Or if not, help you build a newer version of him. By the way, if I haven't told you lately, I'm glad you've kept up with your flash cards.

Good morning! A gift? You shouldn't have! [His tone is by no means protesting, though. He's all for it, in fact.]

[What appears in front of Taryon's door is a very large package. Keyleth hasn't tried to wrap it because of its size but his name is artfully written for Taryon to see. Inside is a Stylish Cavalier Hat.]

[Despite being the new guy in the group and not being introduced to the man before arriving in Folkmore, Scanlan thought it proper to bestow Taryon with a belated Winter's Crest gift as well. Late in the evening when the artificer is fast asleep the bard slips an envelope with a small note and the item in question.]

"I know we may have gotten off on the wrong foot but I wish to amend my somewhat dickish introduction with a belated Winter's Crest gift. I respect a man with a glorious 'stache and I hope this comb will serve you well."

I need to drink and bitch. Meet me in the courtyard. I have a blanket, some magically heated stones and the alchemy jug.

And if you can, swing by the kitchen and get some meat and cheese. I forgot.

[...Oh dear. What's happened now, he wonders.]

Certainly! I'll bring the finest rage-snacks I can find. Shall I bring Doty for sketching out mugshots for target practice?

[He's been around long enough to know there are different varieties of drink-and-bitch sessions. Sometimes violence is needed.]

[She's not telling him until he gets there with the snacks.]

Oh! That's a lovely idea. Yes, do that. It's been a while since I've seen Doty's artwork.

[She's not sure that she's got the desire to murder so much as she needs to just get some things off of her chest. And who better than her best friend?

When he arrives in the courtyard, it's obvious that she's conjured up enough alcohol to pour glasses for all of Vox Machina a few times over and she's already started. Trinket is out of Raven's Slumber, sleeping behind her as she rests against her bear, drinking and scowling.]

[She'll hear Doty's clanking footsteps well before he appears in the yard, though neither keep her waiting for long. At Tary's gesture the automaton waits at the edge of the yard for whatever they might need him for, and meanwhile he heads over to park himself beside her, hesitating only a fraction of a second before giving the bear a light pat to make his presence known. He's still not exactly a bear person, but he can appreciate a protective ball of muscle and fluff as much as the next man, and Vex loves him so that's what is most important. Plus, living with her back in Whitestone meant being very much used to (and mostly enjoying) his presence.

He sets the tray of snacks in the space in front of them, near the alcohol, and reaches for a glass.]

I see this is a "get positively smashed" kind of bitching. Whatever happened?

[She looks up when she hears Doty and gives both the automaton and his creator a huge smile as she lifts her glass of wine. It's not the "I'm already ten cups in and this night is finally starting to get better" smile she wears when she's drunk, but it's definitely not the "I'm ready to strangle someone because they're just so fucking stupid" smile either.

She scooches over for him to sit next to her. Trinket gives out a snorty breath through his nose when Tary touches him, but that's all the movement the bear gives in his semi-hibernation sleep he's experiencing right then.]

You remember how I've been doing those advice posts over the relics, yes? I think I've actually found one who might be too hopeless to help.

[Her smile is a little too in-between the norm for him to parse, so of course he's fishing for more information. There's no bitch-and-drink session if the bitching isn't in full swing.]

How could I forget? You give such lovingly brutal advice. [The honest truth can be cruel, but it is so often necessary. He makes absurd enough choices that he's survived that advice a few times himself.] Are they not understanding, or just too stubborn to listen?

[She's not quite ready to be cruel to anyone, but she's definitely on her way to getting rather drunk. It's only better now that Tary's here. Getting it out into the ether and out of her system while enjoying the company of one of her favorite people is the way to live.]

Yes, well, sometimes we all need someone to sit us down and punch us in the gut with the truth. It's the only way to improve, right?

As for the person, I think it's a bit of both. He... they? I think it's a guy, but I don't really know, so I'll stick with they. Anyway, they appear to be in a very complicated sort of love triangle but instead of trying to face it, they're running away and avoiding all contact with the other two people.

That sounds like a very swift method of losing friends.

[He knows a thing or two about one's own pride and misunderstanding (or denial) of self getting you into trouble. And in his case it had taken a literal punch in the gut, and then some, to trigger some improvement. And look at him now! Somehow a member of Vox Machina. Coolest friends in the world. Drinking on a bear. Not in a love triangle, but nobody's perfect.]
